Girls finish 5th, boys 8th at Buffalo

The Big Lake girls finished fifth and the boys were eighth against some good competition at the Buffalo Invitational Cross Country Meet Thursday.
Shelby Kline was the top Big Lake finisher in the girls varsity 5000 meters. She finished 14th in a time of 16:09.
Rachel Olson took 18th in 16:19 and Laura Kisner was 24th in 16:39.
Kelsey Nelson finished 56th in 17:63 and Ellie Murphy was 75th in 18:28.
Rachel Adams (78th, 18:37) and Arrica Imm (86th, 18:53) were the sixth and seventh finishers for the Hornets.
Final team scores were: Marshall 50; Minnetonka 65; Monticello 82; Orono 185; Big Lake 187; Becker 207; Hutchinson 208; Andover 214; Waconia 219; Buffalo 219; Mankato East 229; Rogers 295; Zimmerman 321; Delano 327; Cambridge 336.
For the boys, Nate Souther placed fifth overall in 17:10.
Logan Engberg was 27th in 18:29.
Jacob Block finished 46th in 19:10. Cory Gease was 63rd in 19:54 and Alex Sanford took 70th in 20:16.
Matt Yates (87th, 22:27) and Dan Stenberg (88th, 22:30) were Big Lake’s sixth and seventh runners.
Final team scores were: Buffalo 86; Andover 86; Hutchinson 95; Delano 99; Marshall 104; Orono 175; STMA 207; Big Lake 211; Cambridge 221; Rogers 235; Becker 245; Waconia 249; Mankato East 381.
The boys junior high team won its fourth meet of the season, even without one of their top runners, Logan Nagorski.
Matthew Trutna took the individual title, crossing the finish line in 10:45, more than 20 seconds ahead of the field.
Ben Morris took fifth in 11:48. Adam Nygaard was 12th in 12:03. Parker Liebl finished 13th in 12:22 and Joe Morris was 19th in 12:35.
The Hornets finished with 50 points, easily outdistancing the other 10 teams. STMA was second with 91 points.
Monday, the Hornets competed in the Milaca Mega Meet, one of the biggest meets in the country, with dozens of schools and hundreds of runners competing in 18 different races.
Nate Souther finished eighth overall in the boys varsity 5000 in 16:20.
Shelby Kline took 14th in the girls varsity race in 15:25.
Logan Nagorski was sixth in the seventh-grade boys race in 12:05.
Matthew Trutna finished 13th in the boys eighth-grade race in 11:36.
The Hornets compete in the Becker Invitational 4 p.m. Tuesday at Pebble Creek Golf Course.
