VOLUNTEER NIGHT. Sherburne History Center members and volunteers socialized as they waited for the evening's guest speaker to present a program on Minnesota soldiers in the Civil War last Tuesday night.
The Sherburne History Center (SHC) hosted an appreciation dinner for its volunteers Tuesday evening.  The event also included the annual meeting for the organization, and a presentation on the roles played by Minnesota soldiers in the Civil War by a recognized expert in the field.

Three people are running for two seats on the Big Lake City Council. Incumbents Dick Backlund and Mike Wallen are challenged by former City Council Member Duane Langsdorf for a seat on the council.
The race between incumbent County Commissioner Ewald Petersen and challenger Erv Danielowski is heating up to be one of the most interesting for Big Lakers. Both are long-time area residents who have served the community and raised their children in Big Lake.

Rachel Joy Scott was known by her fellow students and teachers at Columbine High School in Colorado as a kind and compassionate person.

The annual Spud Fest Spooktacular Trail of Terror through the Woods of Despair drew big crowds Friday and Saturday to Borcherts Woods on 243rd Avenue in Orrock Township.

RIDE WITH RICH.
Big Lake Police Investigator Rich Berg will be riding his bicycle 250+ miles for Law Enforcement United – Road for Hope 2015 to raise money for families of officers who have died in the line of duty. The ride will take place May 10-12, 2015 from Virginia to Washington D.C. Officer Berg is trying to raise $5,000.
