The Big Lake Hornets girls varsity tennis team lost to the Rogers Royals at home Thursday, 6-1, after losing a close away match to the Cambridge-Isanti Bluejackets Tuesday, 4-3. “The girls came close to winning against Cambridge last night,” said Coach Brett Mattson Wednesday morning.

The Big Lake Hornets swim and dive team lost a close meet versus the St. Michael-Albertville (STMA) Knights with a final score of 102-81 at home Thursday.  “Some of the highlights of the meet were season best times achieved by many swimmers,” said Head Coach Mary Walsh.

The Big Lake football team won its first game of the season Friday, a thrilling 20-19 nail-biter over Buffalo at home. In a game that had lots of penalties, lots of turnovers and four field goals, the outcome wasn’t decided until the final seconds.

The Big Lake School District Early Childhood Center held an open house at Liberty Elementary School Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon.
Sherburne County may be increasing its property tax levy for the first time in five years. Tuesday, the county board certified the 2015 preliminary levy at $42,455,675, a 2.5% increase over the 2014 levy of $41,420,261.
