Last year Big Lake runner Amy Visci was in Boston, preparing to run the famous marathon, when she got some sad news from home. Baby Liam Schumacher, son of Lance and Jennifer Schumacher, sadly passed away in the arms of his loving family April 14, 2013.

The Sherburne Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) will host the third-annual Missis-sippi River Watershed Event Thurs., April 24 from 4-7 p.m. at the Monticello Community Center, according to Watershed Coordinator Tiffany Determan.

A small but enthusiastic group turned out for the “Day at the Museum” program at the Sherburne History Center last Saturday morning, where they enjoyed free popcorn and beverages while watching a screening of the hit comedy “Night at the Museum”, which features Ben Stiller and Robin Williams in a museum that comes alive at night.

MAX, THE KLEINBANK MASCOT took a turn throwing pies at Principal Caryl Gordy, Teacher Karen Nelsen and Assistant Principal Teresa Smock-Potter during the Liberty Elementary School Pennies for Pies event, which raised over $3,000 for the Big Lake Food Shelf.
Students at Liberty Elementary School raised a record $3,237.21 for the Big Lake Food Shelf with their fifth annual Pennies for Pies event last week.

Ten-year old Skylar Marsolek of Big Lake has been chosen to participate in the state finals of the Miss Pre-teen Minnesota Pageant after completing a preliminary set of interviews with pageant judges for National American Miss.
