The Big Lake High School Chamber Singers kicked off the final Big Lake school District board meeting of the year with a musical interlude.

Darlene Lanz grew up just east of Big Lake. Her family owned a farm near what is now Hudson Woods, named for her family. At 88, Darlene can still remember what Christmas was like when she was a little girl.

Kathleen Heaney, Sherburne County Attorney, will lead the Minnesota County Attorneys Association (MCAA) over the next 12 months.   Heaney was elected president during the Association’s annual meeting in Bloomington Dec. 4.

Sherburne County and local businesses are taking part in a pilot program to keep people safe from drunk drivers during the holidays. The Safe Cab Program helps bar patrons get a ride home if they’ve been out drinking a little too much.

More than 100 families in the Clearwater and Clear Lake area had a Merry Christmas thanks to the generosity of people and businesses in their community and the help of lots of dedicated volunteers.

Fire destroys Gustafson Trailers building

A four-alarm fire at Gustafson Trailers in Becker Twp. destroyed the main building located at 14747 165th Ave. SE at Hwy. 10 and Co. Rd. 11 Tuesday afternoon.

Lioness held their annual garage sale

The Big Lake Lioness held their annual garage sale in Lions Park off Co. Rd. 5 Saturday morning. Funds from the sale will go to support some of their other endeavours throughout the year.

Oak wilt is a common problem in Sherburne County but it is not the only tree disease which can have a negative impact on local woods and forests.
