Duane Theodore Anderson, age 88 of Becker passed away on Friday September 19, 2014 at Heritage of Foley.  Visitation will be Tuesday September 23, 2014 from 1 PM to 2 PM at Peterson-Grimsmo Chape
The Big Lake Board of Education held a workshop meeting Tuesday evening. They met with and interviewed two potential consultants to help with the search for a new superintendent, following the retirement of Jonathan Miller, who served the Big Lake School District for 12 years.

The Big Lake Lioness held their annual garage sale in Lions Park off Co. Rd. 5 Saturday morning. Funds from the sale will go to support some of their other endeavours throughout the year.

Oak wilt is a common problem in Sherburne County but it is not the only tree disease which can have a negative impact on local woods and forests. Oak blight is a tree disease which resembles oak wilt to some extent. It only attacks burr oaks and is referred to by the arborist community as BOB.

Blood Drive nearly makes goal

The Knights of Columbus hosted a blood drive for the American Red Cross Monday at Mary of the Visitation Catholic Church Big Lake Campus.

MEMBERS OF THE REFUGE RANGERS 4-H CLUB participated at the State Fair performing a Share The Fun act titled “Worlds Worst 4-H Club”. Members were Evan Schafer, Hannah Anderson, Tyler Zoubek, McKayla Masog, Ally Kangas, Taylor Muehlbauer, and Conner Schafer. Members also won trips at the County Fair on various individual projects and they all received blue ribbons at the State Fair. Not pictured is Noah Anderson.

Fair loving 4-H'ers attend the State Fair

Fifteen year old Laura Simcoe from Elk River has been a part of 4-H for eight years now. She earned three trips to the State Fair in those eight years.
