The most ferocious battle in the Pacific theatre in WW II was fought on the volcanic island of Iwo Jima, the first of the Japanese “Home Islands” to be invaded by U.S. Marines in the campaign leading to the planned invasion of Japan.

Big lake middles school wrestlers, wrestled at Bemidji state and brought home the medals! 

BIG  LAKE HORNET Cassie Knick took third place in the all-around in the Mississippi 8 Conference meet versus Buffalo.
The Big Lake Hornets varsity gymnastics team beat the Monticello Magic, 138.500-133.725 in an away meet Thursday. Junior Mallary Dick took first place on the vault, the uneven bars and the balance beam. She took third place in the floor exercises and was number one in the all-around with a score of 37.375.
Big Lake seniors Rachel Olson and Nate Souther were selected to be among the nominees for Region 7AA Triple A awards honors.  Established in 1988, the Academics, Arts, and Athletics Award (Triple "A" Award) is sponsored by the Minnesota State High School League.

The Becker Big Lake Eagles varsity hockey team lost a Two Rivers Conference match to Mora/Hinckley-Finlayson, 6-2, Tuesday.

Hornet boys get a win

The Big Lake boys basketball team picked up a win and played well in a losing effort over the past week.

BIG LAKE HIGH SCHOOL’S outstanding Knowledge Bowl Team took fourth place out of 91 teams at the St. Francis High school Rumble on the Rum meet last week. Team members are Jacob Block, 12th grade, Jack Flicker, 10th grade, Peter Wallace, 12th grade and Jake Dickinson, ninth grade. (Submitted photo).
