BIG LAKE’S SECOND ANNUAL CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTING was a big success Monday, inspite of the freezing temperatures which may have kept some people home. The event was sponsored by the Big Lake Legacy Foundation and Big Lake Public Works.

The season is upon us

Thanksgiving is over and the people of Big Lake are looking forward to Christmas with the second annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, held behind City Hall near the ice skating rinks Monday.

THE STRUFFERT FAMILY of Big Lake has dedicated their lives to law enforecment. Six members of Pat and Vernon Struffert family are peace and safety officers. Family members are (front row, left to right) Sheryl (Struffert) Beier, Pat Struffert, Amy (Struffert) Skerry. Middle row (left to right) are Andrew Struffert, Courtney Struffert, Kathy Struffert, Mark Skerry and Wendy (Johnson) Struffert. Back row (left to right) are Dale Struffert and Brian Struffert. Pat Struffert grew up in Oak Grove and graduated from high school in Foley in 1963.



HISTORIC FIND. SCSU graduate student Jeff Williams is shown with copies of the Red Wing Republican Eagle newspaper that detail a week's worth of the fighting on Iwo Jima in 1945.
