I-94 project in Monticello may start this week

The MnDOT construction project on I-94 in Monticello may start as early as Monday.
The project incudes reconstruction and safety improvements on eastbound and westbound lanes of I-94 between Hwy. 25 and Co. Rd. 18.
The project is expected to cause delays in and around Monticello for the next few months as motorists are re-routed to detours to and from I-94.
At a meeting last week, J.P. Gillach of MnDOT said four lanes of I-94 will remain open during construction, but will be shifted depending on the area under construction. Ramp closures will also occur at different times during construction, which is expected to continue into October. Motorists will be required to follow detours through Monticello and the Hasty I-94 exit during different stages of the project.
The exact starting date will depend on weather and soil conditions, said Kirk Allen, District 3 project supervisor with MnDOT.
